The Department of Disease Control, Ministry of Public Health, warns the public to avoid eating raw or undercooked pork, as it risks contracting  the disease, which can cause permanent deafness or death, especially for those at risk. It also recommends prevention methods, such as eating cooked food, not sharing raw and cooked cutting boards, and not touching raw pork and blood with bare hands. 

That cooking food to eat with family or friends, if you bring pork that was butchered in the village to eat raw or half-cooked, such as larb, raw pork lue. Which is a local food that has raw pig blood mixed in, or grilling that is not cook, which risks infection,  deafness fever or  Streptococcus suis infection, which may cause permanent deafness or death. 

Situation of swine flu in Thailand

For the situation of swine flu from January 1 – February 7, 2021, there were 17 patients, 1 death. Most patients were elderly and working-age, 55-64 years old, followed ทางเข้า ufabet by 45-54 years old and over 65 years old, respectively. The region with the most patients was the North (12 patients, 71 percent of all patients). What is swine flu?

Swine flu is caused by the bacteria Streptococcus suis. This bacteria lives in the respiratory tract of pigs and in the blood of sick pigs. It can be transmitted in two ways:

  2. Contact with infected pigs, including pork, organs and blood, which are transmitted to humans through wounds, scratches on the body or through conjunctival tissue containing the germs. 

How to prevent swine flu

Dr. Opas recommends methods to prevent swine flu, namely:

  1. You should eat food that is cooked with heat and freshly made, especially pork. 
  2. You should buy pork from fresh markets or department stores that have been inspected and certified by the Department of Livestock Development. 
  3. Do not buy pork that has a strong smell and is dark in color. 
  4. If eating grilled food or pork barbecue, always cook it thoroughly first. 
  5. You should use your own serving spoon and separate the utensils used to pick up cooked and raw pork. 
  6. Do not share raw and cooked cutting boards. In addition to preventing swine flu, it also prevents COVID-19  .
  7. Do not touch raw pork and blood with bare hands, especially pig farmers. 
  8. People working in slaughterhouses, pork butchers, livestock breeders, and veterinarians should wear rubber boots, gloves, and tight clothing while working. 
  9. If there is a wound, it must be covered tightly and hands must be washed. After every contact with pigs. 
  10. Importantly, during this time of the COVID-19 outbreak, people are asked to strictly follow the COVID-19 prevention measures. By wearing a cloth mask or surgical mask 100%, washing hands frequently, and maintaining distance between people.
