Former Liverpool midfielder Jamie Carragher has hailed Curtis Jones performance in Sunday’s 2-1 Premier League win over Chelsea, meaning the Reds will not have to splash the cash on midfielder Martin Zubimendi.
The Reds were heavily linked with a move for the Real Sociedad midfielder but the player ultimately opted to stay in Spain, while Arne Slots has not made any new signings but has continued to impress.
After his recent Anfield performance, in which he scored the winner against the Blues, Carragher hailed Curtis Jones the 23-year-old’s performance as a move that will help the team avoid having to spend money on a midfielder in the January transfer window.
“He’s been excellent, he’s been outstanding, he’s at a stage where he’s not yet first-choice,” Carragher said.
“You have the outstanding Gravenberch and McAllister, so it’s difficult for him to break through, but his performances have been outstanding.”
“I wonder if Arne Slot is going to go back in for Zubimendi in January. But when you see how he played today, you think ‘no’. He has to now do it on a consistent basis
“You think about that quality on the pitch and ยูฟ่าเบท you think about the money that the team is spending. And for me a local kid to perform like that is really great.”
